About this project

Lerch Bates Europe Limited have recently completed the modernisation of 36 Lifts at the 39 floor Barclays Bank Headquarters in Canary Wharf London including increasing the speed of the 24 low, medium and high-rise passenger lifts and the introduction of Destination Control. All works took place in a fully occupied building.

The project started in 2012 following a traffic analysis to decide on the best method to increase passenger movements. Destination Control was introduced in lieu of group directional collective control for the low, medium and high-rise passenger lifts. The introduction of the Destination Control feature was identified as the only way to reduce the impact on building occupancy when a lift in each group was taken out of service for the upgrade works. This also ensured that group control was maintained when the completed lifts re-entered service.

The relationship has continued with new orders to replace two escalators, window cleaning cradles and upgrade the monitoring system.

Greg Harris Technical Director of Lerch Bates Europe Limited, who is responsible for this ongoing project, is proud of what we have achieved to date and looking forward to a continued relationship with this valued client.
