Meet Shannon W. Pierce, P.E., National Practice Leader of the LB Forensic group, a seasoned professional with more than 20 years of experience in the Architectural, Engineering, & Construction (AEC) industry. Pierce’s journey in structural design spans a wide array of projects, from residential and commercial to industrial, educational and historic preservation.

“I started as a structural designer figuring out how to make buildings stand up,” Pierce said. “Now I use those skills to figure out why they fall over.”

Pierce’s work includes forensic engineering, expert witness support, and a range of structural assessments and feasibility studies. Shannon’s dedication to his field is evident in his comprehensive approach to building rehabilitation and condition assessments.

“We pride ourselves on quality, timeliness and communication,” he said.

Pierce, who is now based in Lerch Bates’s Minnesota office, joined Lerch Bates as part of the company’s acquisition of Pie Consulting and Engineering in 2019. Shannon started as a Project Manager at Pie in 2016, where he provided consulting services for forensic engineering claims, appraisals, structural assessments and various damage assessments.

Today, Pierce’s passion for forensic engineering and his commitment to excellence make him a valuable asset to any project. His ability to analyze complex structural issues and provide practical solutions ensures that buildings are safe, functional, and resilient.

“I love the challenge of diagnosing failures, preventing future issues, and devising effective repair solutions,” Pierce said. “Every day is different, and every project is different … and I like the change and challenge of my day-to-day work.”

When asked about what he is most excited about in his transition of becoming a leader in Building Science at LB, Pierce said, “We have pockets of LB offices, and I want to grow those and start new offices so Lerch Bates’s forensic capabilities are bigger, better, faster and stronger.”
