About this project

US Olympic Center Museum Façade System Project

The U.S. Olympic Museum is a part of the overall effort by City of Colorado Springs to showcase the area’s history of providing world-class training facilities for Olympic athletes. This 65,000 SF museum pays homage to Olympic and Paralympic athletes throughout the years. With a faceted metal panel and curtain wall envelope, the project team was particularly concerned with the air- and weather-tightness of the complex system.

Lerch Bates performed a technical peer review of the early design to address the complex facade system. Later in the project, Lerch Bates had the opportunity to assist in developing a specialized building enclosure field testing program for the mock-up assembly to identify and address potential construction issues. Lerch Bates’ test plan included the design and construction of a custom, free-standing test chamber that encased the entire mock-up assembly, and adapting test equipment to pressurise the large specimen.
