Ryan provides building enclosure consulting and commissioning (BECx) for clients in both the private and government across all market sectors. His primary responsibilities include collaborating with project teams early in design to integrate trade partner design assist firms with the Architectural team schematic designs, align building and system performance targets, meet sustainability goals, and develop testing protocols to verify performance of enclosure systems.
As a former custom unitized curtain wall project manager, Ryan’s experience guides alignment of trade partner systems on complex and high-profile projects with the development of the Architectural design documents; his critical input assists the construction team in developing schedules, sequencing, and coordinated details between trade partners to minimize unforeseen conditions during construction. In additional, Ryan’s mechanical engineering background provides valuable insight in the validation of trade partners scope with budget and value engineering options based on project risk profiles, programming considerations, and HVAC design.
Ryan’s involvement during the design process helps smoothly transition into Lerch Bates technical review of the construction document and submittal peer reviews with minimal need for redesign or reevaluation of approaches. Prior to construction, control layer discontinuities will have been identified and coordinated details developed which address schedule, sequencing, and compatibility of enclosure assemblies. The upfront consideration aids in the successful undertaking of performance mockups, visual mockups, first in place mockups, construction installations, and field testing for the project. In addition, to validate alignment of installed work with design documents, manufacturer requirements, and industry standards Ryan’s on-site time and observations provides technical oversite for the construction team and process. Which concludes when commissioning with Owner training, formulation of closeout documentation, and the final project warranty phase observation.
Outside of work, Ryan enjoys traveling and giving back to his community; Ryan spearheads Lerch Bates’ relationship with Common Hope and has lead an annual service trip to build homes for Guatemalan families since 2017.
